Simon Bird net worth

By Suren Prasad

Comic actor Simon Antony Bird is reported to have a net worth of £5 million.

The third of four children born to Heather (née Gage) and Graham Bird, economics professors at the University of Surrey, witty Brit Simon Bird was born on August 19, 1984 in Guildford, Surrey. Exhibiting an early talent for music, Bird played the violin for various school orchestras.

His route to education was via Cranmore School, West Horsley, the Royal Grammar School, Guildford and Queen’s College at the University of Cambridge. At university he served as President of the Cambridge Footlights Dramatic Club, in the company of Joe Thomas, best friend and The Inbetweeners co-star.

With a desire to shine as a stand-up comic, he performed from 2005 in Chortle’s national student comedy awards, ultimately coming second in 2008. Meanwhile, he appeared regularly on Channel 4 Radio podcast The Weekly Show (2006-07), alongside Thomas.

During his MA (Cultural and Critical Studies) stint at Birkbeck College, he collaborated with Thomas and Sid Little to form The House of Windsor, a comic sketch group. In 2007 and 2008, the group presented their act in a show entitled The Meeting at the Edinburgh Festival. Set in a real boardroom, it became an attention-grabbing, five-star rated comedy.

Following this acclaim, Bird was cast alongside Thomas in the E4 sitcom The Inbetweeners (2008). Its very first episode attracted an audience of 321,000 with viewing figures reaching 3.7 million for the finale.

The awards soon started rolling in with the British Comedy Award for Best Male Newcomer (2008), the British Comedy Award for Best Actor (2009), a nomination at the Royal Television Society Awards for Best Comedy Performance (2008) and a nomination at the 2009 BAFTA for Best Male Performance in a Comedy Programme. The show aired until 2010 after which Bird created The King Is Dead, his own comedy panel show.

Another of Bird’s projects is Big Talk Production’s single-camera comedy, Friday Night Dinner (from 2011 onwards), scripted by Robert Popper.

In August 2011, Bird starred in The Inbetweeners Movie. With a budget of only £3.5 million, the comedy grossed an amazing £55 million, with its four stars allegedly making £500,000 each.

Bird also masterminded and co-starred in the pilot for Chickens (2013), broadcast on Channel 4 and later picked up as a series by Sky 1. The venture, assisted by Joe Thomas and Jonny Sweet, is about three men who stay behind in England in the midst of World War I. He also starred in the films The Look of Love and The Harry Hill Movie in the same year.

The 2014 sequel to The Inbetweeners Movie was also a major box office hit, taking over £2.75 million in its opening weekend.

Bird married his long-time sweetheart and Cambridge-mate Lisa Owens in 2012, after he proposed to her while on a romantic Paris tour. They currently reside in London.
